Employment Law

The Education and Workforce Group works closely with management, and campus and JPL Human Resources, to provide legal interpretation and advice involving employment-related policies and laws related to faculty and staff. These include equal opportunity; affirmative action; non-discrimination; disability, harassment; benefits; hiring and termination, including layoffs; employment disputes; grievances; retaliation; labor/union issues; wage and hour; whistleblower issues; volunteers; independent contractors; and workers' compensation. Attorneys advise in the development of Institute policies, and provide training in areas such as supervision and harassment. Attorneys do not provide legal advice to employees in their personal matters, including their employment relationship with the Institute.
