Research and Research Compliance

Research issues are very diverse, including collaborative memoranda of understandin (MOUs), research agreements and other research-related legal issues from the campus Divisions and Office of Sponsored Research. Research compliance covers research misconduct issues handled by the Provost's Office at campus and the Ethics Office and Office of the Chief Scientist at JPL, animal research issues handled by the IACUC, human subjects research issues handled by the HSC at Caltech, and biosafety issues handled by the IBC. Research-related issues also include research polices such as those regarding academic freedom and document marking. The Research Affairs Group of the Office of the General Counsel provides counsel to the offices listed and endeavors to keep clients and committees abreast of current legal issues in the areas of research and research compliance which may impact Caltech.
