Finance, Tax and Investment

The Business Affairs Practice Group supports the Caltech Financial Services and Investment Offices on a wide range of regulatory, policy and contractual matters. The Office of Financial Services is responsible for Caltech's accounting, budget and planning, financing, procurement, and tax functions. The Investment Office oversees the Institute's investment-management activities for its endowment, trusts and other assets. The lawyers in the Group advise these organizations on legal matters related to the Institute's tax-exempt bond issuances and investments and other financial transactions, as well as providing tax advice in areas such as private use, unrelated business income tax, Federal, state and local taxes and compliance with Federal tax requirements to maintain Caltech's exempt status.
